Rydabus

an old bus on the Isle of Wight

Around the Island - Old Style

The RydaBus event is popular amongst islanders and holidaymakers alike. Visitors from all over the world have enjoyed the two-day event in which historical buses and coaches will transport them around the island. There are no charges for the rides but you can purchase a programme which funds the event. The programme includes information about your transport, the routes and times and many special offers for shopping, food and drink. You can pre-purchase your programme here. Also, below is a map of the bus routes, which you can download and print.

The Bus and Coach Museum

The annual Rydabus event is run by the Isle of Wight Bus and Coach Museum Museum. The museum was started in 1977 by a group of vintage bus or coach enthusiasts who owned or part-owned these wonderful vehicles. Initially housed at Newport in a former grain store rented from the island council, the museum opened to the public in the summer months. However, by 2014, the number of vehicles and artefacts that the museum collected outgrew the building in which they were housed. The museum moved to its current home, a former Southern Vectis bus depot in Park Road, Ryde. The depot built in 1937 is an attraction in itself, almost Art Decor.
